Editorial Policy

AusfWerks publishes practical guidance for scale modelers, with armor and military subjects at the center. The aim is to help readers make deliberate choices about painting, weathering, detail work, decals, and dioramas—adding convincing realism without burying a model in effects.

How We Choose and Support Topics

Each article begins with a useful modeling question: what finishing choice will make this model look more convincing at scale? Coverage focuses on the conditions that change the answer, including scale, kit engineering, materials, subject, intended setting, and the likely condition of the vehicle or aircraft.

Sources are selected to fit the claim. They may include kit and manufacturer instructions, paint and finishing-product documentation, museum and historical references for vehicles and markings, and respected scale-modeling sources. Product specifications and instructions are attributed to the relevant manufacturer when that context matters. Historical claims should rest on suitable references rather than repeated modeling folklore.

Evidence, Interpretation, and Experience

Historical evidence and artistic interpretation are not the same thing. When records support a marking, color, configuration, or pattern of wear, the article should make that basis clear. When evidence is incomplete—or when scale effect and visual emphasis require a choice—the recommendation is presented as interpretation or reasoned editorial opinion.

Techniques can behave differently across scales, kits, paints, and surfaces. AusfWerks states that context when it materially affects the result. Research, technical analysis, and illustrative workflows are also kept distinct from documented firsthand testing. A product or method is not described as personally tested unless that experience is documented.

Editorial Judgment and Disclosures

AusfWerks is willing to make recommendations, but the reasoning should remain visible. A useful opinion explains the tradeoff, the evidence behind it, and the circumstances in which another choice may work better. If a documented affiliate, sponsorship, ownership, or other commercial relationship affects content, it is disclosed on the affected page.

Corrections

Accuracy matters, especially when a small detail can change an entire build. Readers can report a possible error by emailing contact@ausfwerks.com. Please include the article URL, identify the passage in question, and provide supporting evidence where possible. Substantiated errors are corrected, and material changes may be noted on the affected page.
