More Port Madness

J Matthes

To apply the previous technique to an even smaller opening, I needed to get a bit more creative. An Exacto blade is too wide to work smaller openings like those found in the side hatches of the Pz IV. Once again, I go to the trusty PE scrap pile.

Making a file
A scrap piece of PE fret and a hobby knife is all you need.

Score the PE in a cross-hatch pattern on both sides. Don't over engineer this or be too exact, it should really take about 30 seconds and little effort, it doesn't take much to score the brass.

Insert the 'file' into the opening and carefully work the opening.

It does an nice job of straightening the edge, but on to the reason I need it.

Please note that I have yet to have use putty on the face of this port. You can re-score the file when it becomes clogged and use the same technique on other thicknesses as well as the egde to use as a thin saw.

J Matthes resides in New York where he's still working on the Pz IV. Yes, the same PZ IV.
