Reworking Kit Fenders

J Matthes

Let's face it, a tank was never meant to be coddled. Every square inch was subject to abuse, especially sheet metal fenders that reside between moving a steel track and a climbing crew. For us modelers, PE fenders are great for adding dents and dings, however...
Sometimes, it's just plain fun to rework the kit.

First up is to damage the kit fender with a set of smooth jawed pliers. I really wanted a wild one here.

To match my reference photos, I needed to have the outer edge bent inward. Unfortunately, styrene isn't that forgiving for this so I cut away where I need it heavily bent.

Here is a view of the top and bottom of the same section.

To build up the missing area, I grab the Apoxie Sculpt and mash some on. No reason to be neat yet, just cover the missing areas well.

Clean it up by scaling smooth with an X-acto and you are ready to go.

And for an overall shot. Not bad for a few minutes of twisting, patching and smoothing.
