1/35 Italeri RSO

Ted Herman

RSO – Steyr Tractor:
This model was based on the old Italeri Kit No. 227. By today’s standards it is not acceptable on any level without some major surgery. I decided to go all out on this particular model. I purchased Royal Models update set for this vehicle (Set # 272). This set has contains both Photo-etched parts and Resin parts to detail both the cab interior and the engine bay. The quality is outstanding and is a very easy set to work with. I also purchased a set of ModelKasten Tracks for this (set #SK-33). This set includes plenty of tracks for spares and also has an awesome set of replacement drive sprockets front and rear. They incorporate some of the Italeri Parts, so some surgery is necessary. After I began, I realized that the rear deck and side rails were so poor that no amount of PE would make them acceptable. I milled out scale lumber and rebuilt the entire bed. I pre shaded the entire model with Tamiya Flat Black and then successive lighter shades of Tamiya German Grey to achieve a worn and faded paint job. The Tracks were painted Tamiya Brown and weathered with Mig Pigments in Tamiya Acrylic Thinner. The rest of the weathering was achieved with a combination of Oil Paints and Mig Pigments.

Ted Herman resides in Virginia where he is staring at some PE clamps and shaking his head.
